Turkish for Beginners - Free Language Classes at the Carnegie Library

This is an introduction for those who are new to Turkish or consider themselves a little rusty. Meets on the first and third Monday of each month, except September 3, in the Graphic Novels Room. This class session runs from September through December.

These classes are FREE.
You do not have to register for the classes.
You do not need to bring anything or buy anything.
New participants are welcome at any time.
This class is for adults, but young people are welcome as long as they behave respectfully.

The Turkish Nationality Room Committee invites you to a concert featuring the group Neotolia on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 6 p.m. at the Frick Fine Arts Auditorium on the University of Pittsburgh campus. The event will feature a “meet and greet” reception with refreshments at 6 p.m., followed by the concert at 6:30 p.m. The proceeds of the concert will help fund the Turkish Room Summer Study Abroad Scholarship. Tickets are $25 per person, $10 for students. Additional donations to the scholarship fund will be gratefully accepted and are tax deductible.

Turkish music master Önder Özkoç to perform

The Carnegie Mellon University Center for Iranian Music is sponsoring the residency of Turkish music master Önder Özkoç through April at the College of Fine Arts (CFA). Özkoç’s residency will feature free lectures and research on Turkish music, as well as a recital on Thursday, April 10, at Kresge Recital Hall.

Beginning Feb. 19, the free lectures will take place weekly from 6:30 - 8:20 p.m. every Wednesday through April 23 in Room 157 of the CFA Building. These lectures are open to all CMU and the public. Lectures will cover the following topics:

The conference on Turkey's Regional and Global Impact: From Kopru (Bridge) to Merkez (Center) has put out a call for papers. The conference will address Turkey's evolving role in regional and global affairs, its impact and foreign policy in relation to the Middle Eastern nations, and its relations with Russia, the EU/Europe, China and the US. Paper proposals are due December 1, 2013 and should be sent to crees@ku.edu. The conference will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 at the University of Kansas.
