Join the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh for a luncheon at the as we welcome H.E. Asad Majeed Khan, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the United States, to our city. Ambassador Khan will be discussing the intricacies of the relationship between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, as well as Pakistan’s status and role in 21st century Asia.
Panelists will relate the current U.S. use of drone strikes to Christian and Islamic theories of what is just in war and to American constitutional law.
Jules Lobel is a co-author of Less Safe, Less Free: Why America is Losing the War on Terror (2007) and president of the Center for Constitutional Rights. Ronald Stone is the author of Prophetic Realism: Beyond Militarism and Pacifism in an Age of Terror; Susan Hascall teaches and has written several articles about Islamic Law.

Pakistan’s Swat Valley and the brutal legacy of the Taliban’s recruitment of child militants will be the focus of a talk by Dr. John Horgan, director of the International Center for the Study of Terrorism (ICST) at Penn State. The event will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, in the Alumni Fireside Lounge at the Nittany Lion Inn on Penn State’s University Park campus. Horgan’s talk, titled “De-Radicalizing the Taliban’s Child Militants: A View from Swat Valley,” is free and open to the public.
