Iraqi oud player Rahim AlHaj will be performing in Pittsburgh as part of the Beyond Microtonal Music Festival from January 11-13th. AlHaj will perform a movement of his own piece, Letters from Iraq alongside the Beyond Festival Chamber Orchestra at the Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland at 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 11th. This concert will also include a variety or works by other modern composers, and is FREE to Pitt students. AlHaj will give a second performance, featuring traditional and contemporary Iraqi music alongside percussionist Issa Malluf, at the Andy Warhol Museum at 8 p.m.

Pam Fest 2017 is an opportunity to experience immersive, critical, narrative, experimental and dialogic film and architecture worlds and start thinking about how, why and where we live today and the problems and issues we face in these environments moving forward.

This fest features Kaz Rahman who is launching his book Islamic Art in Modern Film and Architecture.

You will read compelling texts and conduct engaging field trips as you study the diverse facets of Muslim American identity, both as grounded in the past and as experienced in the present. As an NEH Summer Scholar, you will reflect on and discuss thirty primary source documents and two major academic monographs; visit two mosques; and make a final presentation about how you will integrate teaching about Muslim Americans into your classroom.
