“New Security Concerns in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Role of the EU”
Marina Skordeli, Director of the Jean Monnet Center at the University of Athens

The Eastern Mediterranean has long suffered from a complex security setting, which is made up of both traditional security challenges as well as asymmetric threats. More recently, there have been new challenges that may threaten US and European interests in multiple ways, such as the Arab Spring and the recent offshore energy findings. Dr. Skordeli previously held the roles of Political Advisor of the European People’s Party in Brussels, and as a Senior Political Advisor to the former Prime Minister of Greece, Kostas Karamanlis.
