28 Sep 2020

Juhood Spotlight featuring Roisin Tapponi. Tapponi is a curator, writer, editor, and researcher based in London. In 2018, she founded Habibi Collective, a digital archive and curatorial platform for women’s filmmaking from the Middle East and North Africa. She is currently developing the first independent streaming service for MENA cinema, SHASHA Movies Ltd. Tapponi will talk about her journey, her work with Habibi Collective, and the MENA film industry.

About Habibi Collective
Tapponi founded Habibi Collective in 2018 as an open-access resource, digitally archived on Instagram. Creating a space for MENA women's filmmaking where there previously was none, Habibi Collective quickly grew into an international community. With a bank of over 500 films from women filmmakers in the MENA region and diaspora, Tapponi screens a range of documentaries, shorts, experimental video, moving-image and narrative features around themes such as climate migration, queer identity and the archive. Habibi Collective is powering the first independent streaming service for MENA cinema, Shasha Movies Ltd.
