CCAS in partnership with Georgetown's Gender+ Justice Initiative is pleased to host Dr. Lamyaâ Achary, Moroccan sociologist and independent researcher, human rights, gender, and LGBTQIA+ activist, and expert in gender equality and sexual diversity for an event to discuss their work dedicated to promoting justice for women and LGBTIQ+ individuals in Morocco, as well as working with a number of feminist and queer organizations in the African continent and the Middle East.

Dr. Lamyaâ Achary is a sociologist-researcher with extensive expertise in gender equality and sexual diversity. Over the last decade, they have devoted their career to promoting justice for women and LGBTIQ+ individuals in Morocco, as well as working with a number of feminist and queer organizations in the African continent and the Middle East. With a particular focus on artistic and cultural-based approaches, Lamyaâ has conducted extensive research into discrimination and inequality.

In addition to their academic work, Lamyaâ is a co-founder of feminist and queer organizations in Morocco and has led multiple advocacy campaigns for justice. In 2019, they co-founded the Tanit feminist research platform to archive feminist queer stories in Morocco as a decolonial practice, striving for representation of underrepresented and misrepresented individuals.
